Contemporary Instrumental, Adult Alternative Music

In an effort to promote cultural understanding and raise oour awareness as global citizens, this issue marks the launch of Evolution's "Cultural Spotlight" section. The way in which this concept "evolved" is the result of our longtime frienship with Higher Octave Music recording artist, William Aura from 3rd Force. His pioneering influence on New Age music has grown over the years and been impacted by his world travel, especially to Nepal and India.

Aura's love for the people of the Himalayan region has segued into an interest in their time-honored traditional handicrafts. Through numerous visits to the region and his involvement in assisting underprivileged Tibetan and Nepali students, the seed for a new venture was planted. Beginning from the concept of "aid through trade", Aura gathered gemstones from markets along with Nepali artisans rooted in the Newar tradition to create the Aura Imports jewelry line. We are proud to spotlight these beatiful, unique pieces in this issue, along with other lifestyle items from the region.

Of course, we remain dedicated to our first love - music. Althought we are gradually expanding Evolution Catalog, we will remain primarily a source of great music. The staff here has over sixty collective years od experience in contemporary instrumental, adult alternative music, and we pride ourselves in finding and making availaible the best titles; many found sizzling under the radar.

As always we thank you for your interest and support. If you have any suggestions or input, please email me at info@EvolutionCatalog.com .

Enjoy the music!

Peace,

Sharon Wilson

Flamenco Music

Welcome to our first Evolution Catalog as independent distributors of music (rather than as the record label, Higher Octave Music!). Let me take this chance to say that we are thankful for you, and every one of our customers...and to the many of you who have called and wished us well, who have supported us with their orders and recommendations, and who have called and wished us well, who have supported us with their orders and recommendations, and who have reffered us to their friends...what can I say? You bless us with your trust, your inquisitive and open minds, and your heartfelt support!

As a result of major label consolidation we are no longer owned by Higher Octave Music, or its parent EMI; although, due to our long term dedication to building the record label, we do continue to offer Higher Octave's music, along with music from several other independently owned labels and some major titles as well. Evolution Catalog is now solely a direct-to-customer business - individuals, as well as spas, gift shops and other such stores. We are independently owned and operated by some of the same people who flamed the entrepreneurial spark that fueled Higher Octave Music nearly twenty years ago. And we keep evolving. We've created a niche over the years, and it is our intention to continue to fill it. Now that we are once again truly independent, we will continue to make you aware of new and cutting edge music that flies below the radar of the masses.

Additionally, 4th Way Fulfillment is our own company now, so you will find a sampling of books, learning tapes, and other self awareness and mind expanding products included in the Evolution Catalog. And also note: your credit card statement will read "4th Way Fulfillment" for ant purchases you make from now on. Please feel free to write to me at Evolution@4thwayfulfillment.com and let me know what you think about the changes.

We, and most of our customers, live on the edge of the mainstream - we're aware of, and open to, ideas and creative projects that haven't reached mass culture - yet. Many of the people who receive this catalog are what the marketers call 'cultural creatives' - those committed to sustainable living, responsible consumerism and spiritual pursuits. It is this type of person that Evolution Catalog caters to...we think that is YOU! We put a tremendous amount of work into this catalog, and into sourcing some of the most life-enhancing music and merchandise available.

We hope you enjoy the fruits of our labor, and that we can continue this journey together for years to come.

May peace prevail,

Holiday by Craig Chaquico

After years of encouragement by your editor, among others, Craig
finally delivers eleven holiday interpretations, all with his signature
style and production values which have flowed with strength since his
days with Starship. Seasons greetings are extended through time-honored
songs like “Angels We Have Heard On High” and “Silent Night,”
and Craig's smooth guitar style makes them all worth hearing anew.

Mediterranea by Johannes Linstead

This is one of the best nouveau flamenco albums in years. It won
New Age Retailer's award for Best World Album. It's both lively and
romantic, and the mystique of the Spanish guitar comes vividly alive
with the sounds of Greek bouzouki and Gypsy violin, accented by
percussion and chant. Linstead, like Govi, got his start at Real Music
where the standards are high and the passion for great
music is still alive. Item #21682 CD: $16.98

Aria 3 by Aria

A large string orchestra, and vocals are recorded in
the extraordinary acoustics of Abbey Road
Studios in London, resulting in true performances
which lend the entire project vitality and presence
that is rare for this genre. Soaring soprano vocals by
Tony-nominated Rebecca Luker combine with pulsating
grooves. If you've missed Aria in the past, think Enigma, Deep Forest,
ERA, Lesium and the like. Item #5765 CD: $17.98

Covenant by Joanne Shenandoah

Picking up where Sacred Spirit left off is a glorious mix of Native American
chants and modern rhythms. This Grammy®-nominated recording
features the solid vocals of Iroquois singer Shenandoah and strings,
flute, percussion, cello. A heartfelt chant, “Giving Thanks,” introduces
the musical journey. The liner notes have an outstanding
explanation of the ancient ways of the Iroquois. Item #9382 CD: $16.98
Elemental Series by Peter Kater
Grammy nominated Peter Kater's piano stylings
mix with luscious strings, gentle percussion,
guitar, and flute. Each composition is in “tune”
with the four essential elements as themed individual
journeys. This music was created for our
times of relaxation, healing and times of peace.

Amarantine by Enya

Be among the first to own the widely anticipated new album from
Enya following five years after A Day Without Rain, the biggestselling
album of her illustrious career. With total album sales topping
50 million worldwide, it's impossible to believe that Ireland's
own Enya could deliver anything less than a spectacular and
equally haunting new release to brighten the life of anyone on your
list – including yourself!

“Think globally, act locally”

In the spirit of “Think globally, act locally,” our editorial team was brainstorming about what we could do to contribute positive messages into the global consciousness. Just one ten minute TV channel flipping excursion will fill our collective psyche with all the distressing news, impending disasters, woeful situations and fearful threats that we could hope to resolve within ourselves. What, then, can we do at Evolution Catalog, but bring you a selection of great music aimed at promoting health and well being for you and our planet?

We need not distress ourselves and our families, by adding fear to the global awareness. We have a choice to make, and because, as Craig Chaquico said, “The music we listen to is the soundtrack of our lives.” I would add to that… “We are what we watch, listen to and take-in.” Our fears, concerns, distress, stress, and anger all serve to weaken our immune system and depress our psyche.

What we can do instead is take a break from the hectic pace; return to a time when there was more optimism and exploration of differences… a time when the global awareness was toward being one in Spirit. We can choose what we take in to our consciousness. In the same way looking at a beautiful flower gives more energy than focusing on the dead leaves around it, and eating an intentionally prepared meal that is served beautifully offers more total nourishment than a sandwich on the run, the music we select to listen to can nourish and calm, or agitate and anger. We have a choice. Make it a useful one for you and yours!

The music we have presented in Evolution 28, whether newly released, reissued, or from our archives has been selected to be uplifting and positive; nourishing the soul (or whatever else you may call it) and uplifting the spirit.
